September 20, 2023, Shanghai, China - As the global manufacturing industry accelerates its transformation and upgrading, chains, as core components in the field of mechanical transmission, are ushering in a new round of technological revolution. From traditional industrial chains to high-end precision chains, from standardized production to customized services, the chain industry is constantly making breakthroughs in the fields of intelligence, greening, and high efficiency, and has become an indispensable part in the global industrial supply chain.

Technology innovation drives industry upgrading

According to data from Global Market Insights, an internationally authoritative market research institution, the global chain market size has exceeded 15 billion US dollars in 2022. It is expected that the compound growth rate from 2023 to 2030 will reach 5.2%. Behind this growth is the result of continuous increase in R & D investment by chain manufacturing enterprises.

In recent years, international giants represented by IWIS of Germany and TSUBAKI of Japan, as well as local leading enterprises such as Hangzhou Donghua and Suzhou Universal in China, have launched high-performance chain products. For example, aviation-grade alloy steel chains that are resistant to high temperatures and corrosion have been applied in the aerospace field; maintenance-free chains using self-lubricating coating technology have greatly reduced operation and maintenance costs in food machinery and logistics automation scenarios.

Li Ming, secretary-general of the China Chain Transmission Association, pointed out: "Intelligent chain solutions are becoming a new trend in the industry. By integrating sensors to monitor the wear status of chains in real time, enterprises can give early warnings of failures and reduce downtime losses."

Green manufacturing reshapes the industrial chain pattern

Driven by the "dual carbon" goal, the green transformation of the chain industry is accelerating. The latest "Circular Economy Action Plan" released by the European Union puts forward higher requirements for the recyclability of chain products, forcing enterprises to optimize production processes. Many leading domestic enterprises have introduced clean energy electric furnaces and wastewater recycling systems, and reduced raw material consumption through lightweight design.

The person in charge of a chain manufacturer in Jiangsu said: "The bio-based lubricant we developed in cooperation with universities replaces traditional mineral oil, reducing the carbon emission of the chain life cycle by 30%. It has currently obtained the German TÜV environmental protection certification."

Regional market differentiation intensifies, and Asia-Pacific becomes the growth engine.

From the perspective of regional markets, the Asia-Pacific region accounts for more than 45% of global chain consumption due to the strong demand of downstream industries such as automobile manufacturing and engineering machinery. The infrastructure construction boom in India and Southeast Asian countries further drives the demand for mining chains and conveyor chains. At the same time, the European and American markets are focusing on high-end precision chains and localized production to replace imports.

It is worth noting that China's chain exports are facing challenges of escalating trade barriers. The United States recently imposed a 15% tariff on some industrial chains, prompting domestic enterprises to accelerate the exploration of markets along the "Belt and Road". In the first half of 2023, China's chain export volume to the Middle East and Africa increased by 22% year-on-year.

Challenges and opportunities coexist

Despite the broad prospects, problems such as fluctuating raw material prices and international supply chain reorganization still restrict the development of the industry. People in the industry call for the industry to accelerate the integration of low-end production capacity and improve flexible manufacturing capabilities through the construction of digital factories.

"In the next ten years, whoever can seize the opportunities of intelligent equipment and green manufacturing will be able to take the initiative in the global competition in the chain industry." An expert from the Global Chain Transmission Technology Committee said.

News background

Chains are widely used in fields such as automobiles, agricultural machinery, mines, and logistics. Their performance directly affects equipment life and energy efficiency. With the advancement of Industry 4.0, the chain industry is transforming from a single component supplier to a system solution service provider.
